Emory & Henry Volleyball Falls To Mars Hill, 3-0, In SAC Tussle

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (3-15, 0-9 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference action on the road at Mars Hill University (7-6, 4-4 SAC) Tuesday evening. The Lions took the first two sets by close scores of 27-25 and 26-24, before cruising to a 25-10 win in the third to clinch the match.

How It Happened
- The first set was a tight affair with both teams alternating points on their way to a 15-15 deadlock at the midway point. MHU took a slim lead at 19-17, but the Wasps struck back to tie things up at 20-20 heading down the stretch. The first to 25 points was not enough, as the squads stood tied at 25-25. A kill and a service ace by Skylar Ogden sealed the set for the Lions to give them the 27-25 win and the early advantage.
- Emory & Henry took the opening three points of the frame and clung to a narrow 10-9 lead early in the frame. The Lions would mount a rally to jump ahead 17-14, but the Wasps would not go quietly as they answered back to draw level at 20-20. Three consecutive points for the visitors from Emory gave them the upper hand at 23-21, but the Lions roared back to take five of the next six points to take the set 26-24.
- The Lions jumped on the Wasps early in the third, running out to an 11-2 advantage. MHU never looked back as they pushed their lead out to as many as 15 on their way to clinch the match with a 25-10 set victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) paced the Wasps with seven kills, 12 digs, three blocks and a pair of service aces while junior middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) added four kills and four blocks. Senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) amassed five kills, three digs, two blocks, two assists and a service ace. Freshman middle Alyssa Meier (Clinton, Tenn.) posted four kills and a pair of digs.
- Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 digs, a team-high 14 assists, two kills and a pair of service aces. Freshman libero Gracy Lasig (Knoxville, Tenn.) had 10 digs and six assists for the Wasps.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Ogden led the Lions with eight kills, five blocks, two digs and a service ace. Ioana Poenaru registered 10 kills, nine digs and an assist while Keira Links went for nine kills, three digs and a pair of blocks.
- Alyssa Kornegay had a match-high 23 assists, five digs and a service ace to go along with Laela Jimenez's match-high 25 digs and six assists.

- Emory & Henry returns home on Friday, October 17 when the Wasps host the No. 20 nationally-ranked Bulldogs of Wingate University for Senior Night. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
