Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Competes At King Open Sunday

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Wrestling Team continued the open portion of its schedule on Sunday at the King Open hosted by King (Tenn.) University.

133 Pounds
- Senior Avery Almany (Bristol, Tenn.) fell to King's Alex Fernandez III by an 18-3 tech fall in the opening championship round. He then dropped a 19-2 tech fall decision to Samuel Hutchinson of UNC Pembroke in his first consolation bout. 

141 Pounds
- Junior Logan Arnold (Rocky Mount, Va.) opened his tournament with a shutout 17-0 tech fall win over Nick Portis of Andrew College in the opening championship round. Arnold was then pinned in 48 seconds by Apprentice School's Bruno Alves in the second championship round. He bowed out in his first consolation bout to Tony Wood of West Liberty by a 17-0 tech fall. 

149 Pounds
- Senior Isaiah Dotson (Jonesville, Va.) dropped a tough 10-6 decision to Belmont Abbey's Justin Knapp in his first championship round bout. He was then defeated by a 22-7 tech fall by Alia Vickery of Montevallo in the first consolation round.

157 Pounds
-  Senior Levi Field (Manassas, Va.) fell to Newberry's Bashir Rostami by a 22-4 tech fall in the opening championship round. He then exited the tournament due to medical forfeit to Ben Tarrago of the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).
- Freshman Zane Perkins (Wytheville, Va.) was pinned in 5:41 by Derrick Bannister of the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in his first bout of the day. He received a bye in the first consolation round, then was defeated by fall in 3:28 by Shorter's Cumberland Kines.

174 Pounds
- Sophomore Sebastian Gaberrete (Jeffersonton, Va.) won his first bout of the day by an 11-5 decision over Thomas Dolo of Bluefield State in the preliminary round. He was then defeated by a 16-1 tech fall against Anthony Pyron of Cumberland (Tenn.) University in the first championship round. Gaberrete bounced back with a 19-4 tech fall victory over Andrew College's Trent Gormady in his first consolation bout, then earned a win by forfeit against Esteban Mata of Andrew College. He ended his day with a loss by fall in 2:01 to Michael Bone of the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). 

197 Pounds
- Redshirt freshman Evan Alger (Pulaski, Va.) received a first-round bye, then was pinned in 4:11 by Jovon Howe of the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in the second championship round. Alger was then defeated by fall by Midway's David Emfinger in 2:37 in his first consolation bout.

- Emory & Henry returns to the mat on Monday, November 18 when they host the Cobras of Coker University in a Conference Carolinas dual. First bout is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
