Sydney McKinney is entering her second year as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Emory & Henry University. McKinney was previously an assistant for the E&H women's basketball program during the 2020-21 season. 

Sydney is a 2020 graduate of E&H and was a standout from 2016-2020 and former assistant in 2020-2021. She rejoins the women's basketball staff after coaching basketball for four seasons at John Battle High School, where she will remain a physical education teacher and varsity volleyball coach. Sydney excelled as a player, where she is sixth in all-time scoring for E&H with 1,210 points , was 3x All-ODAC, All-Region and 3x All-Academic All-State. She recorded one of two triple doubles in E&H history with points, rebounds and assists. She also helped guide the Wasps to regular season ODAC Championships in 2019 & 2020 and to the National Tournament in 2019. She pulled down 656 rebounds and added 225 assists, 157 steals and 86 blocks over her career. She sits second in blocked shots in school history and is third all-time in field goal percentage (49.7%). McKinney was twice named ODAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week and earned spots on four all-tournament teams over her career.
 
McKinney was a three-sport, all-state performer (basketball, volleyball, softball) at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She was also a member of the volleyball during her freshman season at Emory & Henry and was named the MVP of the Greensboro College Invitational.

McKinney completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in health & human performance in May of 2020 and finished her Master of Education degree in November of 2020. She resides in Bristol, Virginia teaching physical education, health and driver's education at John Battle High School and also coaches varsity volleyball.
