EMORY, Va. — Emory & Henry University is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Tim Sarver, a distinguished member of the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame whose legacy of excellence, leadership, and service left a lasting impact on the University and its athletic tradition.

Sarver was a four-year letterwinner and captain of the 1967 Emory & Henry football squad. In 1966, he was named Player of the Year by the Knoxville News Sentinel. The following year he was named All-Area Small College Back of the Year and was placed on the All-Area Small College team.

Sarver began his coaching career as an Assistant at Lord Botetourt High School, moving to Bath County High School as Head Coach. After Bath County, he served as an Assistant Coach at Stonewall Jackson High School (Unity Reed High School), and then became the first Head Coach at Osbourn City High School in 1977. In 1982, he led that team to an undefeated season and the school's first District Championship.

In 1985, he took the helm of the Harrisonburg High School football program where he remained for 26 years, retiring in 2011 with a record of 217-82. Under his leadership, Harrisonburg teams won 14 District Championships, six Regional Championships, and advanced to three AA State Championship games, capturing the district's first State Title in 2001.

Sarver was inducted into the Emory & Henry Sports Hall of Fame in 1975 in recognition of his outstanding contributions and achievements, exemplifying the values of commitment, integrity, and sportsmanship that define Wasps athletics. His influence extended far beyond competition, as he was widely respected for his character, mentorship, and dedication to Emory & Henry.
